State, US flags to fly at half-staff Friday

cloud1Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Thursday reminded Connecticut residents that U.S. and state flags should be raised to their full height on Friday, then pulled down to half-staff from sunrise to sunset in honor of the 3,000 people who died in the in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

“The State of Connecticut stands with our nation in mourning the horrific loss of the hundreds of innocent women, men and children whose lives were taken fourteen years ago, and who will never be forgotten,” Malloy said in a staetment. “We also honor the brave first responders – firefighters, police officers, and EMS workers – in addition to the everyday citizens who showed extraordinary acts of heroism during these tragic events. And of course, the brave men and women of our military who’ve dedicated their lives to defending our values and protecting our nation are always in our thoughts and prayers.”

There were 161 victims with ties to the state who were killed 14 years ago.
