Darien High School boys soccer coach Jon Bradley led over 20 youth soccer players and their parents to the 40th annual Gothia Cup, more commonly known as the youth World Cup, from July 10-20 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Boys and girls from Darien, New Canaan and Stamford comprised two teams under the club title of Darien FC and competed among more than 1,600 teams from 73 countries.
The Darien FC boys finished in the top 16 of the 12-and-under-division, while the girls played in the 14-and-under group. Prior to arriving in Gothenburg, the group played against charter schools and a semi-professional team in England, where the kids also trained at the home of the Queens Park Rangers, a Premier League club.
