New principals finally announced in Bridgeport

|

BRIDGEPORT — After holding down the job in an acting capacity at least twice, Carmen McPherson will finally get a shot at running Harding High School on a permanent basis.

McPherson is among a baker’s dozen of principal and assistant principal appointments announced Monday by the school system. The school board is expected to approve the appointments at a special meeting on Wednesday. A meet and greet for the new principals will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 45 Lyons Terrace.

Other appointments announced Monday include: Sangetta Bella as principal at the Discovery Magnet School; Lea Catherman as principal of the Bridgeport Regional Aquaculture School; Randall Conway as principal of the district’s new alternative education high school; and Carmen Ortiz as principal at Waltersville School.

The district previously named Bryon Williams as principal to the Military Academy and Michael Watson, Victor Black and Joseph Lipp as principals at the new Fairchild Wheeler complex of science high schools.

Conway and Lipp are new to the district.

Principal openings at Bryant and Hallen Schools have yet to be announced. The district has not indicated, despite requests, how many school administrators will be coming back as retirees. The district, this spring, offered school administrators an early retirement incentive and suggested some could be coming back to work for the district at a reduced rate.

New assistant principals include Dane Brown and Joseph Raiola at Harding, Luis Planas at Barnum, and Ricardo Rosa at Batalla.

McPherson has been assistant principal at Harding for six years and served as interim twice during that time.
