Who will control city school board?


BRIDGEPORT — All eight candidates vying for five seats and control of the city school board are expected to participate Thursday in a candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

The public event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church, corner of Park and Fairfield Avenues.

The Nov. 5 election will pit three Democrats – Andre Baker, Dave Hennessey and Howard Gardiner – who primaried their way onto the ballot along with three Republicans  – Steve Best, Joe Larcheveque and John Weldon – and two Connecticut Working Family Candidates – Eric Steward-Alicea and incumbent Sauda Baraka. Baker also has the endorsement of the Working Families Party and will appear twice on the ballot.

Voters can choose any three candidates. Five will be elected.
