Jacquie To Join Tonya At Temple

Jacquie Fernandes officially completed her four-year stay at UConn today when she participated in commencement ceremonies. She said she will work at some basketball camps in the coming weeks before heading to Philadelphia in August to start the next chapter of her life.

Fernandes will serve as a graduate assistant under Tonya Cardoza at Temple. Her goal is to someday coach at the Division I level and this will be a solid step in that direction.

Fernandes will slide into the spot vacated by former UConn manager and Trumbull High product Stacey Nasser, who had been with the Owls the past two years. Fernandes will also join former UConn post player/current Owls assistant coach Willnett Crockett on Cardoza’s staff.

“When we played them (in the NCAA tournament) I knew that I wanted to go to grad school and I knew that I wanted to be GA,’’ Fernandes said. “What I want to do is coaching. So we just talked about it and kind of kept it under wraps until it all came through. It all worked out. Philly’s going to be great. It’s going to be great to work with Tonya and Will’s down there. So it’ll be fun. They have a great staff. This is a new experience learning the game from a different perspective. I’ll take what I learned here and take what I can learn from Tonya and build on that. It’s just another step in the right direction. You’ve just got to keep everything going forward and it’ll all work out.’’

  1. Another UCONN grad/Basketball player that has moved in the right direction. Good luck to her and the rest of the UCONN seniors!
