As a freshman, Diana Taurasi shot 1-15 before fouling out against Notre Dame in the 2001 Final Four. UConn led by 15 or 16 at halftime and lost by 15 or 16. The freshmen turned out to be UConn’s greatest player and was a huge contributor to 3 straight NCAA titles.
Maya Moore is UConn’s leading scorer and a huge contributor to 2 straight NCAA titles and the now deceased 90 game winning streak.
As as senior, Maya Moore refused to drive to the basket against Stanford, to either score or get to the free throw line. Moore has consistently disobeyed Coach Auriemma’s instructions to drive to the basket this season.
Last night’s loss was a disappointment because Auriemma was out coached, Tiffany Hayes played like Stefanie Dolson and Heather Buck, and Maya Moore actually Quit on a few plays. If Stanford was able to harass and shut down Moore, then Why was UConn unable to harass and shut down Jeanette Pohlen?
UConn Coaches should stand up and take Blame for their Failure to Recruit a Legitimate Division 1 Top 25 center. When Tina Charles was a freshman, UConn Coaches knew they would have to Replace her in 3 years. Heather Buck and Stefanie Dolson are clearly Not the Answer. And please do Not use the Freshman/Sophomore excuse anymore. Bria Hartley is a freshman and Kelly Faris is a sophomore. They were UConn’s best players against Stanford.
Hopefully the UConn Coaches will Learn a Lesson and Start Recruiting some Legitimate Division 1 Top 25 players who are 6′ 3″ and taller. After last night’s game, there is No Excuse not to do that. Enough with the Recruiting all the Short Guards.
Also, at Christmas i wished that UConn would Stop Intentionally Recruiting Players that are Clearly Doomed to be Super Glued to the Husky Bench for 4 years. UConn, please start recruiting like you once did with Abrosimova, Ralph, Schumacher, Johnson, Bird, Cash, Jones, Williams, Taurasi. All 9 players Averaged at least 17 Minutes Per Game in the 2000-01 season.
WHAT A PATHETIC PERFORMANCE. IT’S OK TO LOSE IF YOU PLAY HARD – BUT TO NOT EVEN SHOW UP? DID MAYA FORGET TO GET ON THE PLANE TO CALIFORNIA? THAT WAS THE WORST PERFORMANCE OR SHOULD I SAY LACK OF THAT ANY BASKETBALL TEAM EVER PLAYED. THANK GOD FOR KELLY FARIS – SHE’S THE ONLY ONE WHO DID ANYTHING
.
.
No surprise that Lorin Dixon will Not play against Stanford. Dixon presents a Matchup Issue against Stanford.
.
Coach Auriemma had her Super Glued to the Bench during the 2010 NCAA championship game. Auriemma did Not even use Dixon’s speed to try to get a Break Away Layup during the Huskies horrible 1st half.
.
Teams do Not guard Lorin Dixon when UConn has the basketball in a half court set. Teams give her Uncontested long jump shots.
.
Stanford would use 5 players to defend the other 4 UConn players when Dixon was in the game. Maybe even a Box and One.
.
It is No Secret that Lorin Dixon would find it Difficult defending Stanford’s tall guards in the Post.
.
UConn would have to constantly double team Dixon’s player in the Post. Or play Zone Defense the entire time she is in the game.
.
Lorin Dixon did Not have a Sprained Foot when she did Not play against Stanford in the NCAA title game.
