Tuck Leads Hot-Shooting U.S. Past Colombia At U-18s

UConn freshman Morgan Tuck had 17 points (7-of-10 FG), six rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes to lead the U.S. to an 87-36 victory over Colombia today in its final game of the preliminary round of the FIBA Americas Women’s U-18 Championship in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. With the win, the U.S. (3-0) clinched a spot in 2013 FIBA U-19 World Championship in Lithuania.

The U.S. shot 55.0 percent from the field (10-of-16 3-pointers) and finished with a 49-23 rebounding advantage. Colombia shot just 24.1 percent from the field.

Fellow UConn freshman Moriah Jefferson added eight points (3-of-5 FG), two rebounds and a game-high six assists in 28 minutes. Breanna Stewart finished with six points (1-of-3 FG), six rebounds and two blocks in 15 minutes.

The U.S. will compete in the semifinals Saturday (TBA). The gold medal game is scheduled for Sunday at 8:15 p.m. EDT
