Freshman forward Breanna Stewart is ready to return to the lineup for the Huskies tomorrow against Syracuse at the XL Center. It was to be the first time this season that UConn coach Geno Auriemma was to have all 11 players healthy and at his disposal. Not so fast.
The status of sophomore center Kiah Stokes is in question after she was forced to leave practice early due to pain in her right shin. A stress reaction in her right shin has already kept her out of five games this season.
“I talked to them before practice today,’’ Auriemma said. “I said, `It’s taken us a long time, but I think Saturday and Monday might be the first time that we actually have everybody.’ And halfway through practice Kiah Stokes walked off the court and didn’t come back.’’
Here is what Auriemma said when asked what he made out of Stokes leaving practice …
“That’s she’s probably not playing tomorrow,’’ Auriemma said. “That’s what I make of it. She’s got a bad wheel. It never ends.’’
Stokes had one of her best games of the season Tuesday against No. 15 Louisville, finishing with two points, six rebounds and three blocks in 12 minutes.
