UConn-Baylor: A Look Back At The Series

Top-ranked Baylor and No. 3 UConn will meet for the fourth time tonight at the XL Center (9; ESPN2). The Huskies have won two of the first three meetings between the teams.

Here is a breakdown of the series to date …

Baylor 66, UConn 61: The Huskies led by 11 points with 13:17 left in the game, but could not hold on. Brittney Griner had 25 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks to lead Baylor, while Odyssey Sims added 23 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Lady Bears were 16-of-18 from the free throw line. The Huskies were 2-of-4.

UConn led by one with 4:51 remaining. But the Huskies did not score again until Bria Hartley made a layup with 15 seconds left.

Hartley led UConn with 25 points (5-of-8 3-pointers). Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 15 points.

UConn 65, Baylor 64: Maya Moore had a game-high 30 points, seven rebounds and six steals to lead UConn. And Hartley, then a freshman, scored eight points in the final 3:56, including two 3-pointers, to help the Huskies win their 80th straight game.

The Huskies led 44-29 with 16:02 left in the game. But Baylor answered with a 27-4 run to take the lead.

UConn went scoreless for stretches of 3:22 and 4:32. They trailed 56-48 with 6:51 left. And trailing 58-55, Hartley hit a 3-pointer with 3:56 left to tie the game. She later tied the game 60-60 on a put-back with 2:46 left and then made a 3-pointer 38 seconds later off an offensive rebound by Kelly Faris to give the Huskies a 63-60 lead.

Tiffany Hayes added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists for UConn, who shot only 33.3 percent from the field. Hartley finished with nine points, four rebounds and three assists.

Griner had 19 points, seven rebounds and nine blocks to lead Baylor, who committed 24 turnovers. Sims finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Kimetria Hayden had 15 points.

UConn 70, Baylor 50: Moore had a game-high 34 points and 12 rebounds and Tina Charles added 21 points, 13 rebounds and four assists to lead the Huskies.

UConn led 39-26 at halftime behind 21 points from Moore and 13 from Charles. But the game got tight during the opening minutes of the second half as the Huskies missed seven of their first eight shots. Baylor made five of its first six and used a 12-0 run to close to within 41-38 with 14:55 left in the game.

Charles answered with back-to-back hoops for the Huskies. Moore hit a bank shot off an inbounds play and UConn countered with a 12-2 run to open a 53-40 lead with 10:25 left. Moore and Charles combined to score 10 points in the run.

Morghan Medlock had 14 points and six rebounds to lead Baylor. Griner added 13 points (5-of-13 FG), six rebounds and five blocks.
