Chong Named All-Metro Player Of The Year; Calhoun, Rooks Honored

UConn commit Saniya Chong, a 5-foot-9 guard from Ossining, N.Y., has been named the 2012-13 Metro Player of the Year, it was announced by MSG Varsity Tuesday.

Chong, who was also named a WBCA All-American and Miss New York Basketball, averaged 34.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 9.1 assists, 4.8 steals and 2.0 blocks this season for the Pride (22-5). She finished her career with 2,988 points, setting a state Section 1 scoring record and is ranked fourth all-time in state history.

UConn Class of 2014 targets Sierra Calhoun, a 6-1 wing who averaged 21.9 points and 4.1 rebounds for Christ the King, and Taylor Rooks, a 6-1 guard who averaged 27.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.7 blocks for Gil St. Bernard’s in N.J., were named to the All-Metro first team.
