UConn freshman Morgan Tuck will be looking for a bit of revenge tonight when UConn faces Kentucky in the Bridgeport regional final before a sellout crowd at Webster Bank Arena.
Wildcats’ freshman guard Janee Thompson ended Tuck’s high school career in the Illinois Class 4A Hinsdale Central super-sectional tournament last season. Thompson had 34 points to lead Whitney Young High to a four-overtime 74-65 win over Bolingbrook Feb. 27, 2012.
Tuck finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Her run of the three straight Class 4A state championships was over.
“I’m not going to say, `OK, we lost,’ because it’s never OK to lose,’’ Tuck said. “But you had the two best teams in Illinois going at it four overtimes. It will always be one of the greatest games played in Illinois. Janee was the difference maker. She was the reason they won.’’
Said Thompson: “We had a lot of history with Bolingbrook coming into that game. We had played them every one of my years in the postseason and lost every time. We had seniors and they had seniors and Morgan Tuck, she just didn’t want to lose. We battled back and forth.
“It was one of the biggest basketball moments I’ve had other than this experience that I’m having right now. It was an amazing, one of the best games that I’ll probably ever play in.’’
