There was some question whether or not the 2013-14 UConn women’s basketball schedule would be formidable in Year 1 post-Big East. Judging by the 13-game non-conference schedule that was announced today, those questions seem to have been answered.
The reigning national champion Huskies will play six games against teams that finished last season ranked among the Top 10 in RPI; five games against teams that won a conference championship; five games against teams that reached to the NCAA regional semifinals; and two games against teams that advanced to the Elite Eight.
The schedule, which includes eight games between the season opener Nov. 9 (vs. Hartford) and Nov. 24, is highlighted by a home meeting with Stanford (Nov. 11) and road meetings at Maryland (Nov. 15), Penn State (Nov. 17), Duke (Dec. 22, Jimmy V Classic) and Baylor (Jan. 13). The Huskies will also meet Ohio State in the Hall of Fame Classic in Springfield, Mass. Dec. 1 and California in the Maggie Dixon Classic Dec. 22 at Madison Square Garden.
Coupled with 18 regular season games in the American Athletic Conference, UConn will have the chance next season to finish 40-0. Baylor is currently the lone team to reach the mark (2011-12).
