Huskies To Host Temple At Webster Bank Arena Jan. 11

The front office personnel at Harbor Yard Sports & Entertainment had been lobbying for some time to lure UConn into playing a home game at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. According to a source, they have accomplished their goal.

The defending national champion Huskies will host Temple at Webster Bank Arena Jan. 11 (noon). Also, the UConn men’s basketball team will host Eastern Washington at the arena Dec. 28 (1 p.m.).

Harbor Yard Sports & Entertainment Senior Vice President of Operations Charlie Dowd would not comment on landing the games Thursday.

A formal announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

In all, the UConn women’s basketball team will play nine of its 18 home games this season at Gampel Pavilion and eight at the XL Center in Hartford.

The Huskies have played 10 NCAA tournament games at Webster Bank Arena all-time (9-1), including the Bridgeport regional semifinals and final last season when they defeated Maryland and Kentucky, respectively, before sellout crowds of 8,594 en route to winning an NCAA record-tying eighth national championship.

The game in Bridgeport will mark the first time that UConn will host a regular season game at an off-campus venue other than the XL Center under coach Geno Auriemma.
