UConn commit Gabby Williams, a 5-foot-11 guard from Sparks, Nev. scored a game-high 24 points in her return from injury Thursday to lead Reed High to a 50-47 win over Reno High.
Williams, who scored 21 points in the first half, tore the ACL in her right knee against Reno last Jan. 19. She underwent surgery Feb. 11.
“Right now, I feel A-plus-plus-plus-plus,’’ Williams told the Reno Gazette-Journal. “I’m so happy right now.’’
Said UConn coach Geno Auriemma said: “I’m thrilled for her. I just think she’s something special. I know how much it hurt her to not be able to play. There’s a kid that loves the game and loves to play and loves to compete. So I’m happy to have her back and out on the court and I’m anxious to go out and see her play.’’
