The U.S. Women’s National Team, led by head coach Geno Auriemma, will conduct training camp at the U.S. Naval Academy Sept. 7-10. Coupled with the U.S. Men’s National Team, the team will also be participating in activities to support transition, leadership and healthy well-being among U.S. service men and women and their families.
The endeavor is part of Hoops for Troops, a year-round global social responsibility program for the NBA and USA Basketball in collaboration with the Department of Defense, USO, Wounded Warrior Project and other military and veteran-serving organizations providing support for active and retired service men and women and their families through programs, events and partnerships.
Former UConn greats Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Stefanie Dolson, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi and current stars Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart are among 33 players vying for a spot on the 2014 World Championship team. The tournament will be held in Istanbul Sept 27 through Oct. 5.
