U.S. Women’s National Team To Meet Canada in Bridgeport

The U.S. Women’s National Team will face Canada at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport Sept. 15, a source confirmed today. The game is “likely’’ to be part of a multi-day stay for the team, which is led by 2016 U.S. Olympic/UConn coach Geno Auriemma.

UConn incoming freshman point guard Kia Nurse is a member of Team Canada. The game will officially be announced during a press conference at the arena Monday at 1 p.m.

The U.S. National Team will begin training camp at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Sept. 7-10.

The U.S. will compete in the 2014 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey Sept. 27-Oct. 5. Former UConn stars Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Stefanie Dolson, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi and current stars Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart are members of the 2014-16 USA Basketball Women’s National Team pool.
