Arena at Harbor Yard gets 2012 NCAA hockey regionals

by:

Another big time NCAA event is coming to the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Thanks to Chris O’Connor at Fairfield University for this.
Here’s the official release:

The NCAA announced today that Fairfield and Yale will host a 2012 NCAA Men’s Hockey East Regional at Bridgeport’s Arena at Harbor Yard, the third such event awarded to the two Connecticut Division I Universities. The Stags and Bulldogs co-hosted the first time with the 2009 East Regional at Harbor Yard and will host again at The Arena in 2011.
Yale, Michigan, Air Force and eventual champion Vermont competed in the 2009 regional that drew a Harbor Yard record 8,478 fans on both nights. The Bulldogs, who lost to the Frozen Four bound Catamounts, returned to the 2010 NCAA Northeast Regional at Worcester, Mass., and beat North Dakota before falling to eventual national champion Boston College.
Fairfield and Yale had plenty of NCAA hosting experience before partnering in 2009. The Stags have hosted the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship on three occasions at Harbor Yard, including the Bridgeport Regional in 2006.
Yale, co-hosts with the ECAC for the 2004 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four at Providence, has also run NCAA contests for baseball, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse.
The 2012 East Regional will be played on March 23-24, with each of the four participating teams having an open practice on March 22. The regional winner earns a trip to the Frozen Four at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.

Pain forced Green’s withdrawl from Dick’s Sporting Goods Open

by:

Ken Green posted on his blog the reason for this third round W/D from the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y. Sunday and his subsequent withdrawl from this week’s Champions Tour Montreal Championships.
Get well, Ken. See you at the State Open on July 26 at the County Club of Fairfield.

Here’s Green’s blog update:

Dicks Titanic,
My 2nd round, 74, was so very close to breaking par. A few bad breaks lies in a not so good putter, caused me the goal of going under par. I was eagerly awaiting the 3rd. round as I really thought I could go under par.
However, my friend, mister nerves struck pretty hard throughout the night. This was the 2nd. night in a row, that I had to fight my “friend”. Upon waking this morning, I realized that the body had had too much. I was convinced by friends not to play today.
I do believe it was the right decision. Sadly I will not be going to Montreal; instead it is my hope that I will be seeing a neurologist this week. Reality has struck, and I know that until we solve this dilemma, I will never know weather I can become a professional golfer again. The inability to do things on a daily basis that you have to do to improve your game, just aren’t being done at the moment. So, with that said it is time for me to jump ship from competitive golf until my nerve problems are resolved.
My pride and competitive spirit, just do not want to handle the playing for show, disabled rights and the spirit of golf. I don’t want to be held responsible for anything I say in this moment as I am writing this with sadness and tears, so I may not be of sound mind.
I will certainly keep you posted as of what happens when I see the new neurologist. Please remember there WERE people that survived the Titanic and the RV. I will fight on.
Be good and be well,
KG
