The news just came down via e-mail from Storrs … starting quarterback Cody Endres has been suspended for the rest of the 2010 season for a violation of university policy. That can mean only one thing, A THIRD FAILED DRUG TEST.
If that’s the case, then Endres had better pack his bags and put UConn in his rear view mirror for good. Not only has he disgraced himself — again — but he’s embarrassed his head coach and all of his teammates by his thoughtless and stupid actions. Randy Edsall would be nuts to give this guy a third chance and keep him on the team for 2011 (he’d be a senior) after this latest incident.
With Endres suspended, it begs the question: does Edsall stick with his guns and put redshirt freshman Mike Box (he’s No. 2 on the depth chart) in the starting lineup this Saturday at Louisville or does he go back to his original starter senior Zach Frazer?
Frazer started the first four games of the season (Michigan, Texas Southern, Temple and Buffalo), completing 47 of 91 passes (51.6 percent) for 553 yards and two touchdowns. Box, meanwhile, has seen brief action in two games (Texas Southern and Buffalo) completing 2 of 5 passes for 30 yards.

Stags basketball to be on TV four times
With the MAAC’s announcement today that the Fairfield-Canisius game will be televised on MSG on Jan. 31, that gives the Stags four definite TV appearances in 2010-11 with the three other games scheduled for ESPNU.
Dec. 28 Fairfield at Florida ESPNU 7 p.m.
Jan. 14 Fairfield at Loyola ESPNU 7 p.m.
Jan. 31 Canisius at Fairfield MSG 7:30 p.m.
Feb. 4 Iona at Fairfield ESPNU 9 p.m.
And depending on the Stags won-loss record at the time, ther’s a chance that their scheduled ESPN Bracket Buster game could be televised.
Bravest vs. Finest game rescheduled for Saturday
The charity softball game between Bridgeport’s Bravest and Finest has been rescheduled for this Saturday, October 16 at 2:05 p.m. at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The game will benefit the Fallen Firefighters Fund for Lieutenant Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michael Baik, who were killed in a house fire back on July 24.

WICC to carry Fairfield Men’s Basketball
I’m hearing rumors — very serious rumors — that Fairfield University has reached, or is in the final stages of reaching an agreement with WICC-AM 600 in Bridgeport to broadcast the complete 2010-11 Stags men’s basketball schedule. A formal annoucement of the deal could come any day. Don’t know if there would be any kind of pre- or post-game show or perhaps an “Ed Cooley Show” those are details that still have to be worked out. I would guess that long-time (and stellar) Stags radio voice, Bob Heussler would be doing the play-by-play with John Cummings on the color.
According to Wikipedia, WICC-AM is a 1,000-watt station during the day and 500 watts at night. Radio Locator says that WICC’s nighttime signal reaches as far north as Waterbury and New Milford, as far west as Danbury and Greenwich and as far east as Clinton.
Fairfield’s season opens on November 13 with a game against Sacred Heart in the second Connecticut 6 tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
