Fairfield senior Brittany Obi-Tabot was selected to the preseason All-MAAC women’s basketball second team by the league’s 11 head coaches as announced this morning by the conference.
Joining Obi-Tabot on the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team is Manhattan College senior guard/forward Monica Roeder, Marist College senior guard Leanne Ockenden, and junior guard Jasmine Martin and senior forward Brittany McQuain of Quinnipiac University.
Obi-Tabot, a 6-foot-1 center, had a breakout junior season, averaging 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in 28 games en route to All-MAAC Second Team honors. Obi-Tabot averaged 24.9 minutes per game and led the Stags with 28 blocks and 26 steals. She also posted two double-doubles and had a trio of 20-point games, including a career-high 24 points against Marist College.
Obi-Tabot helped Fairfield secure its third national postseason bid in the last four seasons, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI). Fairfield went 18-14 overall and 11-7 in league play one year ago. The MAAC will announce the Preseason All-MAAC First Team on October 4.
Fairfield, which was picked fourth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll, opens the 2013-14 campaign at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Tournament. The Stags’ first game of the year is on November 8 against the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The following day, the Stags will face either Texas A&M Corpus Christi or Western Illinois University.
The MAAC will announce the Preseason All-MAAC First Team on Friday.
