funny how they missed or chose not to use this video, but then it puts Buttars in a good light

  1. How does this show Buttars in a good light? The operative word was “may.” Buttars did not say he will support some kind of anti-discrimination bill. In fact, he doesn’t say anything in this story. It may all be smoke and mirrors, a smart political response for having been called out on his opinions about gays and lesbians where he appears to be softening but doesn’t actually have to do anything. Because in a year’s time when his support would be needed, there may be not bill, the public will have forgotten the whole matter, he will still be in office, and we will not have any more legal protections than we have now.

Let’s see him stand up and say that gays and lesbians deserve equal protection under the law no matter what my church says because I believe in the separation of church and state. Then he will appear in a better light. For the moment, he is still hiding in his office, sending messages through “sources,” and generally waiting to see which way the wind blows. And if he does co-sponsor this anti-discimination bill, it will be the result of having been exposed as the right-wing, fundamentalist homophobe he is.
