Well boys and girls, they held a kiss-in near the grounds of the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City this weekend for the second consecutive week in protest of two men who were ticketed for tresspass for a very causal kiss as they walked through a plaza which the Mormons built after buying up a block of Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City.
Citing this “great offense” was conducted on Mormon property or should we call it sacred land, the pair were first accosted and held by Mormon security and then ticketed after security called the local Barney Fife’s because the pair refused, out of protest, to leave the grounds, by the way not with any further offending lip touching, but standing their ground in defiance of being tossed off a public (Mormon owned) plaza.
In a police report provided in PDF form at the website of the Salt Lake City Tribune, it appears to contradict security officers’ version of what happened.
Church spokeswoman Kim Farah has said the Aune and Jones were not singled out for being gay and that they were “politely asked to stop engaging in inappropriate behavior.”
However, the police report does not indicate the men were given the option to stay if they stopped kissing or hugging. It states only that the guard told the men that “they need to leave [church] property for the behavior and that [it] is unwanted,” and that the men were detained when Jones said he would not leave.
Now, granted this is “private property”, but come on, it wasn’t like these two fellas were going for a Guiness World Book of Records liplock on LDS property. It was a very casual kiss as they were strolling through the plaza as any heterosuxual couple would do. Which begs the question would this have happened to a “straight couple” ?
So in support of this incident with shades of Haight-Ashbury of the 60’s, we’ve had these two kiss-in’s.
Can’t ya feel the love ?
Nope not for Sandra in the video at this weekend’s kiss-in. By the way this gal can’t keep her own story straight, one minute she says she was kissed by a homosexual, then changes her story and then again says she was kissed.
Poor dear must be confused by all the Lavender Power floating in the air. Sandra, where’s the love ?
Sandra by the way is Sandra Rodriquez, the purported leader of the vile anti-gay hate group called America Forever which gives Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church a run for his money when it comes to anti-gay hate.
Eric Ethington has more of the videos featuring Rodriquez and an excellent posting on his blog about the kiss-in and was there to write a first person account of the event.
While at Eric’s blog after taking a look at the link posting, click HOME, as he has covered to great extent with videos and photos all the protests. Which brings to mind this photo at his blog which he points out is a kissing couple who were not asked to leave the property. It appears selective kissing applies to LDS rules.
