The Next Family is releasing thefirstmusic CD for gay families. This CD features songs “Daddy, Papa and Me” and “Hangin’ with my moms.” It’s the first of its kind and The Next Family is thrilled to be offering this ground-breaking resource.
TNF is a site for urban parents that celebrate diversity in families. This site speaks to same sex parents, single parents, interracial families, urban dwellers and the like.
“Warm Sun” is written and performed by Susan Howard. Susan, known to fans as SUHO, has been playing guitar and writing songs since her college days at NYU. Working at a local bakery in New York, a guy gave her a tip of quarters and a guitar pick and she said “Hey man, teach me to play.” Although he had no students, Dan Zanes became her teacher. Soon after, Susan went on a 3-year tour playing original music to colleges around the country with a group called “Ladies on the Couch.” After several cramped nights in the back of a van, she moved out to LA to work with a producer on her first album, “Happily Grazing.” Since then, her music has been heard in several Indie films, MTV, Oxygen, Nickelodeon, Disney and in the movie “Spring Breakdown,” which recently debuted at Sundance. She and her partner Brandy Black – the editor-in-chief of The Next Family – have a 21-month-old daughter. Susan is represented by Format Music and very excited to participate in this TNF project.
“As a gay parent, I feel it is imperative that we have the right resources for our children.”
Brandy Black launched TNF in August 2009. It is in the beta stages of its web site and is interested in the feedback from the community in order to further grow its project.
“The ultimate goal of The Next Family is to create a large community of people that seek a better and more diverse world. With reader involvement and suggestions, we can create products and that are missing in our market. A children’s CD for gay families was first on our list,” says founder Brandy Black.
