For more information about the documentary, “The Gift”, which a portion is shown in the August 27 posting, “Lessons Not Learned …. Gay And Bi Men Who Seek HIV”, you will find the web page here .
The film which made in 2003, predates the so-called “investigation” by the BBC program”I love being HIV+”, and has been shown on The Sundance Channel which is where I first learned of this disturbing cultural phenomenon of “bug chasing” or getting “The Gift” several years ago.
While as mentioned in the article about the BBC Television program, both the “investigator” and the BBC have called “bug chasing” a fantasy, one has to wonder if in 2006, the BBC purposely closed it’s eyes to both the actuality and reality of gay and bi young men who willingly seek to get infected with HIV. The activity continues today as this writer was able to ascertain in doing research for the August 27 posting.

In a 2003, Ridgefield, CT resident, actor Harvey Feirstein was quoted in The New York Times, “Many of our young men see infection as a right of passage, an inevitable coming of age”.
