U.S. Postal Service letter carriers in Fairfield on Saturday, May 12, will collect food donations along their routes through town for the annual “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign.
The local postal workers — participating for a 19th year in the national program — will collect canned, bottled and non-perishable foods donated by residents for the single-day project.
Food collected by letter carriers from the Fairfield and Southport post offices will be donated to Operation Hope, a local agency that maintains a food pantry, community kitchen, homeless shelters and transitional housing programs.
Last year, the local carriers collected 44,000 pounds of food.
