Sherman Green fest welcomes Santa to town

|

Santa Claus is coming to town and, as has become his annual Fairfield custom, plans to greet local fans Saturday at Sherman Green.

The Man in Red will join the welcoming festivities courtesy of his “elves” at the Fairfield Fire Department, who will give him a ride to the downtown green, corner of Post and Reef roads, via one of their shiny ladder trucks.

Arrival is set for 10 a.m., and Santa will then help get the Christmas season under way as he listens to holiday wishes from youngsters of all ages until 2:30 p.m.

Every child who attends receives a plush animal, compliments of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the event each year.

In addition to Santa Claus, the gathering will feature horse-and-buggy rides and a petting zoo. The Kiwanis Club also will be grilling food.

And about 25 to 30 community organizations are expected to set up booths on the green to provide information about their activities and promote their charities.
