Set sail for adventure with the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk! The Aquarium’s Marine Life Study Cruises are more than just a boat ride – it’s all hands on deck as little Cousteaus work with the Aquarium’s team of scientists to study marine bio-diversity.
From the surface of the Sound to the its depths, they gain an understanding of its interdependent marine life and have an opportunity to participate in this hands-on adventure. A biodredge brings to the surface a hidden world of snails, tiny crabs and many other bottom dwellers. And everyone helps inspect the trawl net’s harvest: usually a variety of crabs, fish, lobsters and always a few surprises (you never know what you’ll find in the Long Island Sound!).
Launching every day at 1pm throughout the months of July and August, guests will utilize sampling techniques to test the waters and an on-board video microscope will allow you to observe the tiniest aquatic creatures. The cruises, aboard the vessel, Oceanic, last two and a half hours, so be prepared to spend an afternoon at sea. This is a not-to-be-missed experience for Fairfield County kids as it deepens their understanding and respect for our fragile shoreline ecosystem.
Passengers must be over 42″ tall. Capacity: 29. Cost: $20.50 per person. ($18.50 for Aquarium members)
