The pampered pooches at today’s Westminster Dog Show may have a better blow-out than you, but you can still win best-in-show with these canine-inspired pillows by Erika Richards’ Greenwich based company, Kreativbyerika.
Sold exclusively in her Etsy shop and at craft shows throughout Connecticut, Richards’ utilizes her background in men’s apparel design when selecting fabrics and designs for her pillows – primarily American-sourced cottons in natural duck, ticking, and toile – in neutral patterns that she can print upon.
Although she says that pillows with images of man’s best friend are among her most popular, accounting for 70% of sales, she also designs pillows for Francophiles and Anglophiles with Parisian and British themed designs, and beachcombers with a series made for seaside living. All images have a sophisticated, but playful feel, Richards says, “I love to use archival/vintage images. I constantly troll open source and Library of Congress archives, as well as old books for images. All of my designs are created from start to finish by yours truly in my Riverside studio.”
Richards had always enjoyed handcrafts and began to work out her “creative demons” by making pillows as a hobby while unemployed in the fall of 2011 and her company has taken off from there. “I had so many friends that urged me to sell my pillows, that I thought I’d give it a try. I have been overwhelmed with the response and reaction from my customers,” she says.
Priced at a surprisingly affordable $30 each, these are a bunch of dogs that you won’t mind sitting on your sofa!
