David and Lisa is a stark look at the world of the mentally disturbed and was one of the beacons of the American independent film movement in the early 1960’s. The 1963 Academy Award nominated film tells the poignant story of two adolescents who make contact with each other in a home for emotionally disturbed youngsters.
David (Keir Dullea), is placed in the home by his mother because of his constant fear of being touched. There, David begins to understand his own psychosis while in the environment of others with mental and emotional problems. Soon he develops a relationship with Lisa, (Janet Margolin), a 15-year old girl suffering from schizophrenia, who also has a strange attraction to him.
