Silvermine Arts Center hosts and opening reception of four new exhibits, January 6th, 2-4pm. The New Year brings the highly anticipated New Guild Members show plus an exciting exhibition of new works by Donald Axleroad, a retrospective honoring the work of Tina Rohrer, and the Silvermine Print Collection.
The New Member Exhibition features artists selected through a jurying process to become new members of the Silvermine Guild of Artists. This exhibit showcases the works of five new Guild Artist members inducted in the spring and fall of 2012, including: Mindy Green, Shelby Head, Heather Houston, Lara Ivanovic, and Hank Paper. Donald Axleroad’s new body of work in “Disintegration of Truth & Trust” was created in response to current events and the contemporary issues of today’s world. Through imagery and symbols, Don, a resident of Stamford, explores the dissolution of American culture; a time and place where dishonesty has become the norm, and for many, innocence has been lost and the American Dream has been shattered. Another new exhibit, “A Commitment to Color, Movement and Geometry,” is a tribute, honoring the life and art of Tina Rohrer, who recently passed away in the summer of 2012. Tina was awarded the show back in June of 2011, and her family led the effort to hold this exhibit in her honor. The selection of work, in a variety of media ranging from painting to works on paper, expresses the artists’ love of movement and color through Tina’s geometric constructions. Historical Exhibition: The Silvermine Print Collection, showcases a selection of works from the current collection, which consists of over 200 prints from renowned artists. On the heels of its 90th anniversary, the Arts Center is working to increase the print collection and to make the collection more accessible. Shows run January 6th-February 17th.
