The Fairfield Museum and History Center is holding a “Freedom Quilt” Family Workshop, 10am – 12pm. Drop in to create a “Freedom Quilt” collage, inspired by the themes of freedom and equality in the exhibit Free at Last of Civil Rights photographs. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. And in the afternoon, the film, Freedom Riders, at 2pm. FREEDOM RIDERS is the powerful, harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. Finally, in the evening, a Film & Lecture: Black Power In The City By The Sea, at 7pm.

Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Day Celebration at the Bruce Museum, runs all day, 10:00AM – 5:00PM. This year’s theme “Our Civil Rights” features performances by Encore Performing Art’s Flying Ship Productions at 11:00 am and again at 1:00 pm of Rosa’s Ride: The Life of Rosa Parks. All ages and abilities will have the opportunity to make “I have a dream …” buttons and add their self-portraits to the Circle of Friends mural.
Westport Historical Society Presents “Kids Honoring Dr. King With Westport Artist”, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Children ages 5 to 11 can celebrate the life of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at an art-themed observance led by Westport artist Roe Halper; noted for her works of social commentary, will help children create watercolors on the themes of peace, unity and understanding and share her story of meeting Dr. King in Westport.
