Ruger gains 4.37 percent in Wednesday trading

Sturm Ruger & Company Inc.’s shares climbed more 4.37 percent to top $57.55 Wednesday after the Southport-based gun maker reported better than expected earnings.

Ruger held its annual meeting on Wednesday morning a day after after posting earnings that were almost double compared to a year ago. EPS for the most recent quarter came in at 79 cents when analysts expected 68 cents.

Volume in trading in RGR more than doubled the average and the company’s shares briefly topped $58 in trading.
