Connecticut pension fund looking to dump gun exposure

|

State Treas. Denise Nappier says she’s reviewing Connecticut’s pension fund exposure to gunmakers and companies that distribute weapons and related products.

She said the state only invests directly in one defense and weapons maker, Alliant Tech Systems, which delivers ammunition to law enforcement and the military.

Several teacher retirement and public service sector retirement funds have holdings in gunmakers. Some investors have moved to sell their shares in the companies related to the industry, though if they’ve been holders for several years, they will be taking a huge profit.

Nappier has shown herself to be an activist investor, using the state’s large pension fund to try to effect change in corporate board structure over the years.
