First County Bank in Stamford is joining the University of New Haven Center for Family Business to establish the Mark Lapine Endowment for Families in Business, in partnership with Lapine, a Stamford-based merchandise agency.

The endowment was created to mark the 50th anniversary of Lapine’s founding, when Mark Lapine and his father, David, started the agency. Using the company’s history as inspiration, the purpose of the endowment is to provide resources to other family businesses in Fairfield County.

“For both my family and our business, the community has always been at the heart of what we do and we are excited for the opportunity to give back to it,” Noah Lapine, president of Lapine, said in a statement. “We’ve experienced both the challenges and the gifts of a family business and with this endowment we are able to share the resources we were given with others.”

The partnership has plans to hold a series of events and seminars to inform the local business community on opportunities and resources available. The first of these will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Stamford Hilton hotel. More information will be available closer to the event date.
