An Artist's Journey on the Appalachian Trail

First Mail Drop

Wow, we’ve been blasting through these first few days! We’re already at our first mail drop, two days ahead of schedule. I’ve barely touched any of the food I already had. I’m thinking about picking a few things out of the package and then sending it back. I definitely don’t need the extra weight. I might also send some of my gear back. Last night in the hammock was okay but not great. It seems like if I’m carrying so much stuff I should at least be super warm at night. I’m thinking of crashing in the tent or staying in shelters until I can get my bivy sack (an ultralight one person tent) and warmer sleeping bag mailed to me. Also, all of the aches and pains are finally catching up to us. I’m hoping lightening my bag will make my joints a little happier. Anyways, I’m very happy to be in a hostel tonight.

I’ve only hiked part of App Trail, done a Rim to Rim of Grand Canyon, GOT to have GREAT GEAR or there is needless pain & suffering.
