New braintrust

A couple of interesting apparent hires down on the Island. To be seen, of course, is how this affects Bridgeport.

The circumstances are very different in this job than in Smith’s last job. He might not have been the first choice, but I think he can do well there.

Plus, I’m confident he’s aware he can now also acquire Sharks and Senators* as well as Oilers… Although, which are better right now? I’m not sure. The circle could be complete.

Newsday recaps some of Smith’s big deals in a little sidebar box. Some memorable days in there. The good ones are easy to pick out. So are the bad ones, really: some of which got worse in hindsight; some of which seem worse when you connect some (mostly Norstrom-related) dots; some of which probably aren’t so bad. One I think was kind of underrated: Getting Glenn Healy** and Doug Lidster for, essentially, a draft pick at the 1993 Expansion Draft, since John Vanbiesbrouck would have otherwise been lost for nothing.

Hoping to sneak down there before a lacrosse game, so maybe I’ll post a little something tomorrow if something’s worthwhile. Don’t expect it too early, though. This summertime bloggin’ is tougher than I thought.

*-Fill in the punchline.
**-Say it with me: Nighthawks reference.
