CFA*, Day 5: A piece of the Rock

*-CFA: We mean it this time

Trent Hunter returns to the site of my favorite road trip ever… and loses. Chris Campoli had the only Islanders goal in a 3-1 loss in St. John’s, in which Boston led 3-0. Kimber writes on Olivier Labelle and some notes.

Around the leagues: Cam Janssen gets hurt after his Edge rips. (Thanks, JB.) Speaking of the Land of the Rounded Hems, Newtown’s own Pete Zingoni models the new Phantoms sweaters in pix seen in the comments over at Uni Watch. Mark Lee is back in camp with the Wolf Pack, beginning Thursday. Quinnipiac grad and onetime Rich Bocchini broadcast colleague A.J. Atchue joins the AHL as communications coordinator. A fine quartet — Brian Leetch, Cammi Granato, Stan Fischler and John Halligan — are this year’s Lester Patrick Award recipients. The NHL’s unbalanced schedule should be history. And OMG! the Yotes are on MySpace! LOL.

Interesting discussion going on over at James Mirtle’s; he compiled and posted a heck of a lot of goaltending stats last night.

And a moving piece by S.L. Price of Sports Illustrated about Mike Coolbaugh, the former big-leaguer turned coach, who died after being struck by a batted ball. The story focuses a lot on the man who swung the bat, former Bridgeport Bluefish catcher Tino Sanchez, and his traumatic journey.
