Sunday reading/scoring/watching

One thing that kind of bugs me about Life in This American Hockey League is that we really don’t get to know the officials. We may chat with a linesman here and there, and we can listen in as they joke with the off-ice officials, but the league isn’t much on having officials talk to the press. So I know I usually don’t even make the effort. My own failing, but still: Unlike the players, whom you can bother after games or chat with after practice, the officials are seen from afar, random collections of stats (like this: Bridgeport has won four Francois St. Laurent games in a row after losing three in a row after winning three in a row after losing four in a row after winning three in a row. Really. It means nothing, but really), faceless entities with tendencies toward five-on-threes.

All of which is a very roundabout way of getting to this feature on AHL referee Chris Brown in his hometown Glens Falls, N.Y., Post-Star. It’s worth the read.

It feels like a long time before Bridgeport plays again, doesn’t it? Jeff Tambellini seems the logical choice if Jon Sim can’t go Monday afternoon. Edit: Gah! No sooner do I post the thing than Corey makes it official. The Sound Tigers took the day off and have an optional on Columbus Day/Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Marty Kariya and Jean-Guy Trudel score goals as Peoria and Dave Baseggio defeat Milwaukee and first-game-coachin’ Lane Lambert.

One more update: Sunday, Kariya scored two more in a win over the Flames, and Pete Zingoni had another goal as Philly went to 2-0.

Evan Grossman spent Saturday night in the NHL’s “War Room” in Toronto. Some interesting tidbits in there.

Check out Michael Sharp’s story and the accompanying fog pictures from Bingo. If they could find the puck, then it wasn’t as bad as that game in 2002. In Saturday’s game, Brandon Nolan and Jamie Johnson both had an assist for Albany.

Tom Grace has called his last game.

This old-school Electric Company clip reminds us that The Amazing Spider-Man has probably spent the past few weeks in aggravation, too*.

And finally, apocalypse averted once again, we sing along with Steve Goodman. No, not this one, or even this one for the moment: “root, root, root for the home team; if they don’t win, what else is new?
