Break out

Unlike the last time Bridgeport came here, it didn’t have a good start, it didn’t pepper Jeff Glass with even-strength shots from all over.

This time, it could barely get out of its own zone for 20 minutes. And when it did get to the other end, every scoring chance was “just routine. We were kind of outside the whole night.”

That came from the Pugnacious Puck-Stopper, Joey MacDonald, who depending on your version was either an innocent bystander or a spearing machine in his fight against Danny Bois. (One ventures the truth lies in between.)

He had a front-row seat (well, standing-room ticket) in the first as Binghamton sent wave after wave to keep the Sound Tigers deep.

“They just kept pounding our D,” MacDonald said. “Every time our D would go for a puck, two guys were on him.”

That makes for problems.

Even-strength shots were 23-11 in Binghamton’s favor. That is also not helpful.

Binghamton 4, Bridgeport 0.

Other Bridgeport goalie fighting major: Rick DiPietro vs. Dieter Kochan, Feb. 1, 2002, at Springfield. Bonus points if you can remember what led up to it. (Seriously. I’m forgetting a key part of it in the memory banks, and my gamer didn’t fill it in.)

Lowell lost to Springfield tonight.

Nice NHL.com bit on the Ferraro boys.

The IIHF will use North American rinks when it plays tournaments in North America.

Some people probably don’t call Cole Jarrett a space cowboy, nor do they call him Maurice, but he is a Joker as he joins Jokerit. Eurohockey.net says it’s a tryout. I have run out of Finns to ask what case “Tigersissa” is*.

RIP, Evel Knievel.

The Thrill is gone.

Nonito Donaire, who stunned Harbor Yard with a knockout of Vic Darchinyan in July, makes his first title defense tomorrow night.

And after this, the Sound Tigers don’t go north of Springfield, east of Providence or west of Lafayette Boulevard again until they come back here on New Year’s Eve. Home for (most of) the holidays.
