Destiny, schmestiny (updated twice now)

This one looked for a few minutes like one where I could just point out yesterday’s post and say, “ditto.”

No dice on that one, but then again, a shots disparity like 32-19 sounds like trouble. And it’s tough killing major penalties, no matter who’s coming against you.

Although, listening to Phil call a Nielsen/Tambellini/Bentivoglio rush late in the game, I got this weird feeling of inevitability, like they were going to score, just ’cause that’s the way things are going now. It’s similar to the feeling I used to get in 2002 or 2003 when Bridgeport was trailing or tied late in a home game, that somehow they would get it done. Not tonight.

Tambellini has the team record now with a goal in six in a row, breaking (I think) a nine-way tie.

Supposedly Regier missed these games with some sort of finger thing. These two games lost to injury are double his total in the previous three and a half seasons. I’ll poke around* more on that tomorrow in Philly. And it’ll be good to be there — no fun trying to sort-of-cover from afar. Thanks to Tris for covering ’em for us.

No medal. An assist for Okposomania on a Rakhshani goal, but it looks like it was over after one period. Supposedly nothing is official until Monday, but yeah, whatever; I’m still expecting an interesting week. UPDATE: Yup, Greg Logan reports that he’ll probably be here Thursday. That would make Saturday the first home game.

Adding something else after reading Tris’ gamer, in which he talks about Brennan’s high-stick. Tris asked Steve Stirling about Brennan, with an interesting result. But here’s a funny stat: coming into tonight, Brennan had been responsible for 19 of Bridgeport’s 200 power plays against, for 35:29 of penalty-kill time. And until tonight, opponents had not scored on those power plays. (There’s a corollary to that, though. Players with multiple PPGAs while they’re in the box: Colliton (5), Spiller (4), Jackman (4), Fata (3), Bentivoglio (2), Nielsen (2), Regier (2), Tambellini (2). In common? They’re penalty-killers, though Bentivoglio not as much as the others.) Full chart below the fold.

Congrats to Canada, who gave up the tying goal with the Swedish goalie pulled but won early in overtime.

Peter Abraham posts a picture of Robinson Cano in a Che Guevara shirt… and points out the funny.

Neil Best notes that the crazy 49ers-Giants game was five years ago tonight, one of the most jaw-dropping nights I’ve ever spent on the couch.
