Offseason Blogging, Day 1

And on the first day of Hockey Summer: Eight Hours of Track, baby! Without sunscreen! (Stopped for coffee anyway, of course.) Thanks to the CIAC for their excellent call Monday of not holding the State Open in the insane heat and humidity of Monday and Tuesday. It was still hot today, but almost bearable. (Easy for me to say. All I had to do was go up and down the 60 or so steps to the press box.)

Has that exit for Route 372 off Route 9 always been labeled “East Berlin”? If it has, I’ve been depriving myself of a good laugh for a long time…

Correction on yesterday, with an assist from Corey Witt’s blog: The depreciation on Marc-Andre Bergeron is 73-to-85, not 83-to-85. (And another was corrected from the comments. Thanks for the catch — couldn’t even blame “heat stroke” yet…)

Michael Leighton got himself a two-year, one-way deal from the Whalercanes. Andrew Ebbett re-upped with Anaheim.

Stuff from Rochester: The deal is almost done with Florida, and Islanders goalie coach Mike Dunham is going golfing.

Former Houston coach Todd McLellan got the gig in San Jose. And Cliff Fletcher is Interim GM for Life.

Good line from Trevor Linden on dentistry and retirement. (Thanks, CLS.)

Who doesn’t tear up his hip nowadays? It’s the popular* thing to do.

OT Watch: David Stern says those Tim Donaghy accusations are bunk. Mike Vaccaro talks about the underachieving Mets — not these.

And whether the reports are accurate or not, best of health wishes to Reg himself, Paul Newman.

*-I honestly, absentmindedly almost said it was the hip thing to do. Booo!
