“Galveston had a seawall…”

Good gravy, here’s prayers that enough people evacuated in Texas. The last time didn’t end so well. (It was 108 years ago, but c’mon.)

Dave’s got some intermission help this year. We’re always glad to see a little more of the Bronx in Bridgeport.

Joe Rullier is a tryout on San Jose’s camp roster.

So Gerard Gallant gets reassigned. Meanwhile, a fascinating bit in Providence, where former NHL coach Bruce Cassidy is going to be Rob Murray’s assistant in Providence. Cassidy was AHL coach of the year in 2001-02. Given the opportunity, I’m imagining, Gordie Clark would probably still rail about how it should have been Steve Stirling. (If we voted at the end of the season, I think it might have been. But we don’t.)

We got through our first Football Friday at the office tonight. It’s a little different than it used to be, because we’ve got semi-normal deadlines now; the adrenaline doesn’t have to pump quite as hard. But it’ll get interesting. We’ve got a new computer system coming in at the office, one department at a time, and we’re coming up next. (You might notice it in print — some pages look different from others.) It’ll take some adaptation. (You don’t care, do you?)

And finally: 35 days to the home opener, 27 days to the opener, 18 days to the exhibition opener, 16 days to Bridgeport camp, six days to Islanders camp (departure, anyway)… and my next day at work will begin in Syosset. You starting to feel it?
