First blood

Very early, Tomas Marcinko had a goal and had drawn a penalty, and Tyler Haskins had drawn another penalty. I noted it to Jonathan Bombulie, who replied, “well, your story’s written.”

Yeah, kinda. And then Jesse Joensuu scores in the second, and it’s even easier. Two high draft picks in 2006, both highly anticipated, both coming in and scoring their first professional goals, Marcinko’s on his first shift, no less.

(The fourth line got only about nine shifts as a whole, but they’re doing something kinda special, those guys.)

Anyway, then the story disappears. For as much luck went into that lead, as much took it away.

But then another one reappears. “Booooooooooo,” goes the crowd as Kurtis McLean goes in and scores (and wait till the paper to see how McLean reacted). And then again, “booooooooo,” goes the crowd as Kurtis McLean goes in and ends the game with a little slam into the boards.

OK, how to give me a story back, hockey gods…
