Bring it home

Jeremy Colliton laughed when he saw me writing down numbers this morning as the team went on the ice. “Don’t bother with the lines today,” he said. I’d figured it out by then: no big significance to the jersey colors today. I was just counting heads. And counting. And counting.

With Jean Bourbeau back in Odessa, and Yann Danis and Brett Skinner up on the Island, it was a skeleton crew at Shelton for the “optional.”

There were only 24 guys on the ice.

How will they get through the week?

Mark Parrish arrived from his physical at about 10:30 and took a few strides an hour later to test out his gear. Felt good, he said. We’ll run the results of a little chat tomorrow. Meanwhile, Ben Walter and Micheal Haley both practiced, their first real run-through. Nathan Lawson flew in from Utah.

Matt Bertani put them through a couple of drills, and then they scrimmaged for almost an hour. And then a bunch of them stayed out and kept scrimmaging. An old-school Monday Fun Day.

Jack Capuano (in the house just long enough to say hi to Parrish, then off to break down tape) said he’d sort out the lines later. Some of it will depend on which injured guys are ready.

This may be the funniest thing ever: “In the Name of Love (joy).”

A classic headline in the Daily News off World Series Game 3, which ended right after I got home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning: “Start of World Series Game 3 was past our national bedtime.”

And to those who get it: Happy 22nd anniversary…
