Ah, but they never told you the price that you pay

Cruising home through Hamden tonight, I got “Here Comes My Baby” and “Only the Good Die Young” back-to-back. That’s a happy road trip. (A bit of consolation, ’cause the coffee shops of choice were closed.)

While in Newington and logging on to send the story, I saw an e-mail “Statement from the New York Islanders on”… well, that’s where the subject line got cut off. Brief bit of what’s-this-nervousness later: it was on Thomas Pock’s five-game suspension for illegally separating Ryan Shannon from his senses. So, if you were expecting Brett Skinner back, well, wait awhile.

Good news in Hershey: Doug Yingst is out of the hospital. The Bears got back to winnin’ tonight, too.

Also: What’s with Portland? (“Gerbe’s good” might be one answer.) A routine 8-3 game in Providence. And while Ilya Zubov is up to replace Shannon and see if he can’t change around games against the Islanders organization at a different level, Denis Hamel is back in Bingo. I guess they’ll keep him.

Editing: I meant to put in a link to Andrew J. Ferraro’s blog in Houston, if you wanna read up on Sunday’s long-lost competition. It’s also a convenient excuse to remind you that, while the links here remain out of date due to forces beyond my control, they’re much more current over at the Lifeboat. It’s good for somethin’ in between technological catastrophes.

And finally, the last word to Joe Henderson of the Tampa Tribune: “It’s possible for a franchise to look more foolish than the Lightning do right now, but then again maybe not. They should abandon the Forum for a circus tent. In the league of serious people, these are the guys with big red noses that honk and squirt water.” Read on.
