“How can they have a captain?” Norfolk attempted liveblog IV

(I forget whose joke I’m stealing in the header. Apologies to that person… and to the rest of you)

Once again, here’s your audio link. A couple of notes beforehand:

–This one begins with the Sound Tigers in fourth place, because Bingo picked up a point this afternoon, coming from behind yet again but yet again losing in overtime on the road.

–See the post below for some stats.

–A very short Saturday around the league. Only 10 games. Wilkes-Barre and Philly are both off. Next week, Bridgeport and Worcester (because of the game moved to March 24 for Fairfield) and Milwaukee are the only teams with Saturday off.

Tris Wykes notes that Grant Potulny and Bracken Kearns (hit by Jesse Joensuu in the first last night, leading to the fight) are out for Norfolk tonight. Check out those lines.

–RIP, actor James Whitmore.

–Tobias Stephan does get his first Bridgeport start.

–I always get a kick out of it when Orioles fans yell out an “O!” in the appropriate place at the end of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Away they go. Looks like just Gleed instead of Hart for Bridgeport.

–I think Pete has raised his voice twice in eight minutes, and one was because Pat got Nikiforov’s name right. But here’s a too-many-men penalty against the Admirals for the first power play, and the Sound Tigers will try to snap that 0-for-17.

–End of one, sounded like a barnburner (or not), no score. Bridgeport had a 10-4 shots edge, which is different from last night in several ways. The power-play streak is up to 0-for-19.

–Mike Lundin scores in tight with Pascal Morency in the box, and the Admirals take a 1-0 lead.

–Make it 2-0, Keller on a breakaway and a deke.

–Break out the Hallelujah Chorus: Mike Iggulden scores, and the Sound Tigers finally break through against Riku Helenius. It’s 2-1 late in the second.

–That’s it for two, and I guess it’s a step forward.

–Get this: Bridgeport has tied the game. Sounds like Colliton on a rebound on a four-on-four. Not a lot of four-on-four scoring in Bridgeport games this year, but this is a huge one. 2-2.

–Jesse Joensuu scores with under a minute to go… Bridgeport withstands a four-on-four turned four-on-three in the final seconds, and, get this, the Sound Tigers win this one. Bridgeport 3, Norfolk 2. Notes maybe to come.

–Capuano on the winner: “It was a good play. Jesse came down, three-on-two — I think it was a three-on-two; I’ve got to take a look at it — he stickhandled wide, wide around the net, carried the puck up to the half-wall. He beat their forward, went forehand, backhand, then shot through a screen with Jeremy in front.” That’ll be an interesting one to watch. He said they had been playing “pretty well” through two periods, had a couple of power-play chances (though that’s 0-for-21). He said the Keller goal began when a puck deflected off Trevor Smith and went the other way, allowing Keller to get behind the defense. And he was glad with the way his team kept coming. The top-two lines were different to start and switched up some more because of some penalties.

See you tomorrow in Philly. Second-to-last visit.
