Hennigar for Hughes

A change of centerman scenery makes Rob Hennigar a Whaler and brings former River Rat Bobby Hughes, going on 22, to the Islanders and, most likely, Bridgeport.

Hughes, in memory, has been a serviceable AHL player when healthy, which isn’t a guarantee*. Hennigar, 26, wasn’t very productive early in little time, went to Utah, tore it up and came back more productive, with five points in seven games and then a playoff goal; that still hadn’t seemed to win many people over. Chris Botta calls Hennigar a “non-prospect” and Hughes a “fringe prospect.” Until they prove him wrong, that’s hard to argue.

*-Edit: In fact, Albany’s press release notes the deal isn’t official until a Thursday physical.
