The Islanders sent Nino Niederreiter back to the WHL this morning. If you’re a Sound Tigers fan but not an Islanders fan, this gives you a rooting interest, albeit one with a slim chance: You can root for the Portland Winterhawks to be upset and knocked out of the playoffs early. Then, if the Islanders decide not to call Niederreiter back up to the NHL, maybe they can send him to Bridgeport.
From the more-realistic (or at least more-imminent) local perspective, it’s a little less depth at forward for the organization, and for a Sound Tigers team that doesn’t score a lot to begin with, that’s a little less depth to play with. But then again, your 18-year-olds are supposed to be bonuses, anyway. (And on the bright side, Rob Schremp should be back soon.)
Meanwhile up here, pretty much the usual, at least in practice. Jeremy Colliton remained with Rob Hisey and Rhett Rakhshani. The other lines appeared usual, seven defensemen, all three goalies, with Kevin Poulin appearing to get the most work.
