Colliton waiting

There’s very good news from Jeremy Colliton: He became Dad to a baby boy this week, he said in a couple of traded text messages. But on the other side, “I’m still not healthy,” Colliton wrote, “so my focus is on getting better. Once that’s in place, I can begin to make a plan for next year.”

It was a rough year; the captain lost 35 games to injuries, most of them the “upper-body” variety. For a classy guy and a solid player, let’s hope his health is in place quickly.

The Rangers hired Jeff Beukeboom to be Ken Gernander’s assistant in Hartford. Awaiting him at some point will be another righty defenseman with a snarl, 2010 first-rounder Dylan McIlrath, but maybe not immediately: The Rangers also announced that McIlrath dislocated a kneecap in minicamp and had surgery. Meanwhile, Doug Lidster was named an assistant with the Texas Stars. A curiously good day to be a right-shot defenseman from the 1993-94 Rangers. What was Sergei Zubov up to? Got to be something good. (Of course, if only the other one were still with us. That’s still hard to fathom, almost a year later.)

And Skip Prosser was possibly right. (I almost don’t want you to watch that video. I almost want to tell you to go do it first. Worth it.) (Also worth it, unsurprisingly: the rest of that Posnanski post on Kansas City.)
