Bounced back

Colin McDonald talked about consistency today like Scott Pellerin talked about it Sunday, how it’s what they’re striving toward, how much Sunday stuck in his craw.

They were a lot more consistent today, taking advantage of turnovers and opportunities, getting the kind of goaltending they usually get, playing physical, earning a win.

“We had four lines rolling good,” Scott Pellerin said. “Everybody had an impact on the game.”

The Admirals were pressuring a little bit late, enough that Pellerin said he thought about a time out, but then Sean Backman chipped the puck ahead to Nino Niederreiter, Niederreiter beat Mat Clark, drove to the net, looked back toward Backman, put it on goal, somehow got it in (he thought maybe off a pad; I kind of wondered if the defenseman didn’t get a piece), and gave Bridgeport some breathing room.

A physical start set the tone, a lot of it by McDonald, who ended up with one of the five fights after a brief feud with Jordan Hendry. Brock Nelson said Pellerin stressed those first six minutes, and Bridgeport emerged from that with a bunch of hits and a lead and a tone.

“Pretty much two and a half periods, they really didn’t push back against us, for whatever reason,” McDonald said.

That line did a nice job. The power play scored one on a rebound. They bounced back nicely from Sunday’s game.

Getting ready to ride through a storm…

About 2,000 kids didn’t get to come today because of Sandy. Darned academics.

Casey Cizikas said he just got caught in the wrong spot by Hendry, on the back of the knee, late in the first period. His leg went numb, which explained the way he went to the bench.

Blair Riley took as hard a punch as I’ve seen him take, right on the button, in that fight with 20 seconds to go. He looked staggered, but initial word was he seemed OK afterward.

Ty Wishart was to be a healthy scratch, Pellerin said, but he wasn’t feeling well this morning anyway.

Prescout later.

Onetime Sound Tigers ATO Chris Barton has an infection in his leg that’s put him in the hospital. Nick Niedert (who’s added Orlando to the resume) tweeted good wishes yesterday.

And since the Gallant double minor for attempted spearing forces our hand… Sideshow Bob, op. cit.
