Twitter was abuzz (@StanCapp had a lot of it compiled) before the official word came: Steve Oleksy got himself an NHL contract for this year and the next two. He should make his NHL debut Tuesday night. Well-earned, and just the latest make-good story from those ECHL guys who helped Bridgeport raise a banner last year.
Tyler Gron, ATO last year, was named ECHL rookie of the month.
Change of plans for the CIAC hockey finals, now (not this weekend but next) Saturday (DIII), Monday (DII), Tuesday (DI) because Yale had the temerity to need its rink. While the tournament gets started, something that has boggled my mind for a while; mentioned it somewhere else. Through the regular season, Hamden has been the Anti-BST. Their results: L W L W L W T W L W L W L W L T W L T W. That’s 20 games. No consecutive wins. No consecutive losses. Not even consecutive ties. A win Wednesday against Glastonbury will end that streakless streak and continue the season (against top-seeded juggernaut Fairfield Prep). A loss, and it’s a streakless season.
If you’re old enough to remember her story, you may find this as neat as I do: Katie Beers is going to be at the Islanders-Rangers game Thursday to raise awareness for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
This isn’t the best fight ever, or the worst fight ever. It’s delay of game, which appears to be how it was called. They did go later. (The LNAH has a high standard for that kinda stuff. And apologies for losing the referral; somewhere on Twitter.)
And RIP, Bobby Rogers.
